The idea to build our own range of products was born at the same time as the idea for MEXI.CLOTHING. Sitting in a gallery in the gorgeous town of San Miguel de Allende, Fraser and I started pushing ideas for designs back and forth – funnily enough, we were surrounded by cactuses.
At that point, though, we didn’t feel like we knew enough about fashion to do it. So we started with what we knew and loved: meeting brands in Mexico that make things we like.
Now, a year later and after six months in the making, we are bringing out our own collection: Mexi by MEXI.CLOTHING.
This January we decided we were ready and began pitching designs again. Jack, Fraser and I did quite a few mock ups until finally we were left with these two designs. They are everything we were hoping for.
A cute, distinctive cactus with a pink background is reminiscent of the colours in San Miguel and every other little town we’ve traveled to in Mexico. It almost feels like we’re keeping the essence of a cactus in a small town within a bubble of pink. We’ve called in the San Pedro t-shirt because of the type of cactus.
The skull is taken from the MEXI.CLOTHING logo and transformed into a living space for cactuses. It’s always been the idea to use that iconic Mexican skull in our range. It was sketching that out that brought the brand to life in the first place, we’re now very excited to see it on our new range. This we’ve called the Calavera t-shirt, thinking mostly about Day of the Dead.
